Maurice Storrer (*1998 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland) is already recognized at a young age as a distinctive voice of a new generation of jazz musicians. As a tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, his work moves between modern jazz and free improvisation, developing a unique and personal musical language. His encounter with the saxophone at the age of six marks the beginning of an ongoing exploration of sound, expression, and musical identity. What begins as childhood curiosity evolves into an artistic mindset characterized by depth, openness, and a strong spirit of exploration. From 2019 to 2026, Storrer studied jazz at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with Christoph Irniger and Nat Su, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Music as well as two Master’s degrees in Music Performance and Music Pedagogy. During his studies, he received several awards, including the ST.ART Nachwuchsförderpreis Kultur (2024) and the Friedl-Wald Foundation Prize (2022).

At the core of his artistic work is the Maurice Storrer Quartet – an ensemble in which four distinct musical personalities come together to develop a shared language rooted in tradition while pointing toward the present.
His debut album Foureign Language, released in August 2025 on the Swiss label Unit Records, marks an important milestone in his career. The recording presents an artist who pursues a clear artistic vision both as a performer and as a composer, realizing it with remarkable consistency.

“This is creative, powerful jazz – the work of a musician with trust in his vision and a direct connection to himself.”
– CONCERTO MAGAZINE

With this quartet, Storrer was nominated for the Swiss ZKB Jazz Prize in 2025. In 2026, he was nominated for the German Jazz Prize in the category “Debut Album of the Year International,” further highlighting his growing international recognition.

“With Foureign Language, the Maurice Storrer Quartet brings a new, authentic, and visionary voice to the European jazz scene: an album that not only excites but inspires in a lasting way.”
– JAZZREPORTAGEN

In addition to his work as a bandleader, Storrer is an in-demand sideman and has performed with internationally renowned musicians such as John Scofield, Ron Carter, and Shai Maestro. These collaborations continuously expand his musical horizon and inform his own artistic work. His discography as a sideman includes several album productions, among them Confined Session #1 (2025) with The Unspoken Orchestra, Cause & Effect (2025) with the Jazzaar Big Band, Nachtflug (2023) with the Meraki Sextet, and Meditations in Rhythm (2023) with Bag Of Sounds. Further releases are in preparation.

Maurice Storrer pursues a focused artistic path centered on live performance, studio work, and continuous development. His work is driven by the search for an authentic voice – a music that continuously redefines itself between tradition and the present.
