Maurice Storrer (born 1998 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland) is a Swiss tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. At the age of six, he discovered the saxophone and developed an early and profound connection to music, which remains a central part of his life to this day. His playing is characterized by an expressive sound that moves fluidly between different jazz subgenres.
From 2019 to 2026, Storrer studied at the Lucerne School of Music (Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy/Master of Arts in Performance/Bachelor of Arts in Music). Already during his studies, he received several awards, including the ST.ART Young Talent Award for Culture (2024) and the Friedl-Wald Foundation Prize (2022). His musical development was shaped by lessons with Christoph Irniger (CH) and Nat Su (CH), who supported him in his search for a personal sound and an independent musical language.
At the core of his artistic work lies the Maurice Storrer Quartet, which serves as a platform for realising his musical ideas and exploring new approaches to improvisation. His music moves between modern jazz and free improvisation, with his compositions probing the space between structure and spontaneity, always placing the interactive dialogue at the center. With this quartet, he was nominated for the ZKB Jazz Prize in 2025.
His debut album, "Foureign Language," was released in August 2025 on the Swiss jazz label Unit Records. It documents his current musical path and his ongoing engagement with sound and improvisation.
Alongside his work as a bandleader, Storrer is also an in-demand sideman in various jazz ensembles, performing regularly nationally and internationally in diverse stylistic contexts.
