Maurice storrer quartet

Conceived by saxophonist Maurice Storrer, the quartet unites the musical voices of four distinctive musicians: Bavarian pianist Jacob Sur, Langnau-born bassist Marius Sommer, and Thurgau-based drummer Aaron Leutenegger. Together, they create a sound world deeply rooted in the jazz tradition while at the same time looking forward. The quartet masterfully balances the classic sound of a jazz ensemble with contemporary openness. Their music is shaped by a respect for tradition combined with a spirit of experimentation, making them a vivid example of how jazz can sound in today’s world.

In August 2025, the band released their debut album “Foureign Language” on the renowned Swiss label Unit Records. Their artistic work has already received some accolades: in 2024 they were awarded the ST.ART Nachwuchsförderpreis Kultur, followed in 2025 by a nomination for Switzerland’s most prestigious and highest-endowed jazz award, the ZKB Jazzpreis. Both the album and their live performances merge the influences of time-honored tradition with the free spirit of experimental music, spiced with a sense of curiosity for the rapid transformations taking place in the world of jazz and music at large.
